TARE’S COTTAGE

An eighteenth/nineteenth century cottage once inhabited by ‘Old Tare’ whose nickname by tradition derived from his growing pulsecrops. Like so many thatched cottages in Cornwall with such short chimney stacks barely higher than the ridge, the roof was eventually burnt off in about 1923 and the cottage since used as a farm building and dairy. Andiggy was built for Tare’s successor and his original cottage since restored, using a teak companionway salvaged from HMS Warspite, wrecked at Prussia Cove in 1947.

The cottage has an enclosed garden to the South and back yard to the East. The sea is an eight minute walk away.

Visitors should be aware that Tare’s adjoins a working yard and the estate workshop so it is not guaranteed to be peaceful 24 hours a day!
