Porth 2
Garden Flat

PORTH-EN-ALLS  as a house sleeps 26 or in three flats as follows:

THE TOP FLAT sleeps eight in a double, a twin and a long dormitory of four single beds. The kitchen and dining area occupy the hall with open fire, the sitting room with fireplace is nicknamed the ‘Lighthouse Room’ due to it’s views. The original ceramic bath is very large.

The flat has its own garden area with south-facing suntrap steps just above the beach.

THE MIDDLE FLAT sleeps ten in three doubles and two twin bedrooms beside a wet room and along the passage from the bathroom to the east. The very large and light sitting room has a fireplace and two balconies overlooking the sea. The entrance hall/dining room (intended to be a squash court with glass roof) is accompanied by a commercial kitchen with electric (as standard) or gas cooking (if requested in advance).

The flat has its own large flat lawn reached via a wooded terrace walk leading directly from the flat to the beach.

THE GARDEN FLAT sleeps eight in two doubles, a twin with en suite shower and loo, and two single beds in the large but snug sitting room with fireplace. The kitchen/diner leads immediately into a sunny walled garden but seconds from the beach.

Built in the Romantic Arts and Crafts style, this grade II* listed house was designed by Philip Tilden in 1911 but never completed owing to the outbreak of the Great War. The spectacular site resulted in a very unusual arrangement whereby the main entrance is via the top floor past the bedrooms descending to the living rooms on the middle floor and further rooms below. While essentially Neo-Elizabethan in design, the architect nevertheless exploited the latest structural developments, and the house is one of the first to use ferro-concrete beams. The fixtures are of exceptional quality and much of the original furniture remains in the house. Although each floor is a self-contained flat, the house may just as easily be occupied as one. Porth-en-Alls has a large garden and its own beach, King’s Cove, about 20 paces below. It is possible to swim at all tides and to launch small dinghies or inflatables safely.
